Finding Predictable and Unpredictable Events With InfiniiVision Technologies
Agilent Technologies Taiwan Ltd
In the embedded system designs, there are both predictable and unpredictable events or signal anomalies. Do you need your oscilloscope to capture analog, digital signals along with serial bus (I2C, SPI, CAN, LIN, FlexRay, RS-232/UART) decode over long time and re-play them later for deep analysis?
Do you need the scope to monitor your CAN/FlexRay, RS232/UART serial bus errors without dead time? Do you need to know the probability of your scope capturing a signal anomaly?
In this presentation, we will answer those questions with real examples using Agilent InfiniiVision 7000 Series oscilloscopes, including the applications of Radar, Satellite, High Energy Physics, Error Logging, Mixed Signals debugging, and Packetized serial bus troubleshooting.
ITS - The best application of car wireless communication
Renesas Technology Taiwan Co Ltd
The application of "wireless communication in car" has recently become one of the hottest topics in the automotive industry. It makes all the signals and messages easily transmitted, without too much complicated physical networks involved (e.g. smooth wireless transmission of the images of parking sensors, or that of car entertainment system, etc.)
Wireless communication is also on the direction to integrate with ITS (Intelligent Transpiration System). Main purpose is to improve the driving safety, with the closely linked drivers, car and road real time information by utilizing the advanced electronics, telecommunication and sensory technologies. It also aims to make the least impact to the environment and secure the transportation efficiency and comfort.

Next-generation Audio: IC, SiP or SoC?
MIPS Technologies Inc
A few years ago, audio functions would have been handled by one or more separate integrated circuits, especially if true Hi-Fi (i.e. above 96dB dynamic range) audio performance was needed.
The different ICs that were required previously can be combined onto a single SoC today, with quality that matches, and in many cases exceeds separate audio ICs. Considering the enormous pressures to miniaturize products while integrating high quality audio and extended battery life, and delivering this at competitive prices, IC designers and end-product manufacturers are finding integration of audio functionality into their SoC designs increasingly attractive.
This presentation will detail the technical considerations in choosing a standalone IC or implementation in SoCs or SiP for next-generation devices incorporating audio.
Designers will learn about the trade-offs that they can make to achieve the optimal solution for their application.
Low-cost Video Codec ICs for Consumer Applications
eASIC Corp
Video system designers often have the choice of using standard parts or custom SOCs for implementing consumer designs. Standard devices such as ASSPs provide the fastest time to market but can often result in undifferentiated solutions in the market. Custom devices like ASICs provide great differentiation but are often expensive and very risky to design.
eASIC's line of MPEG-4 and H.264 video codec ICs give designers the choice of using a standard device or adding customization without paying any additional costs for mask charges. They are ideal for use in many consumer applications including wearable cameras, surveillance cameras, and low-cost camcorders.

Vinculum - Intelligent USB host bridge chip
Future Technology Devices International Ltd Taiwan Branch
The Vinculum family of USB Host bridge chips comes from FTDI, a UK-based company known for its easy-to-use USB slave bridge chip series. Vinculum not only handles the USB Host interface, and data transfer functions. Owing to the inbuilt processor core and embedded Flash memory, Vinculum encapsulates the USB device classes as well. When interfacing to mass storage devices such as USB Flash drive and digital camera, Vinculum also handles the FAT File structure and communicates via UART, SPI or parallel FIFO interfaces through a simple to implement DOS-like high-level command set. Vinculum intelligently and transparently interprets the complicated USB protocol, and provides high-level command interface to assist engineers to easily overcome design-in barrier inherent in USB Host connectivity. The supported USB device classes have been extended to HID, Hub, and CDC as well. Vinculum provides an innovative single-chip solution for bringing USB Host capability into existing or planned new products by an intelligent, easy, and low-cost bridging interface.

A New Paradigm for Network Security Appliance
Intel Microelectronics Asia Ltd Taipei Branch
Cryptography, massive floating-point operations, XML messaging, real-time video processing, and IP telephony are just a few of the highly specialized things we ask our machines to do. Over time, people have discovered that forcing general-purpose CPUs to do it all is not the most efficient or productive means of accomplishing specialized tasks. Better to attach an optimized accelerator module to the system, one that is streamlined and loaded with algorithms for the task at hand. The demand for those kinds of accelerator technology capable of increasing performance and power efficiency for compute-intensive tasks is set to grow rapidly in the coming years.
A new product, code name Tolapai, will be introduced by Intel in August 2008. Tolapai is an integrated SOC designed to address the special needs of increasing perfomance and power efficiency for compute-intensive tasks of a given application.
This course will discuss how Intel Tolapai can help to accelerate the output of a Network Security Appliance for SMB.
Model Driven Development (MDD) for embedded systems
Telelogic Software Singapore Pte Ltd
One of the major advances in software engineering design has been the use of the Unified Modeling Language (UML) for embedded designs.
MDD environment is increasingly being used for creating embedded applications. The key enabling technologies consist of modeling, requirements traceability, Design For Testability (DFT), complete application generation (in various languages like C, C++, JAVA and ADA), and support for collaborative development.
MDD is capable of fully modeling system architectures across any discipline, and allows the simulation, implementation and testing of those architectures in an easy push-button environment on host environments or directly on the target hardware.
"Manage your digital life" - Intel Consumer/SOHO NAS platform strategy
Intel Microelectronics Asia Ltd Taipei Branch
Digital content is rapidly exploding today from diversity usage model.
In this session, Intel will discuss storage market innovation and how IA technology can calibrate feature sets to meet market demand and accommodate on usage model in home and SOHO market.
Attendees will also learn storage industry technology trend, Intel storage platform development strategy and how to start aligning with Intel for upcoming "go-to-market" strategy.
Security - The trusted shadow behind your daily life
SafeNet Taiwan
With the migration of traditionally LAN-based services and information transactions towards a mobile networking environment comes new challenges and technologies to address changes. These challenges include data handling which must be secure over open air, ensuring the integrity of services and data that depend on SECURITY to protect them. SECURITY of Services, Content and Personal Information must be ensured. It must be there behind you as your trusted shadow, without you feeling its presence - it must remain pervasive, but 100% effective.
Without knowing, or needing to know, we rely on our trusted shadow in LAN networks, reaching deeper within the walls of corporate networks with VPN/IPSec, and MACSec security. We also need this level of trust with us in our Mobile surroundings with VPN Clients, Mobile, WiMax, and Wireless LANS, and also for the content we receive with DRM technologies - the world is our Oyster, with Mobile Security!
